About us
Starting out in Barcelona 2022 Leleni studio, a collaboration between Alessandra Monarcha and Charlie Paddick, is dedicated to the reuse of reclaimed building materials in architecture and design.
Conceived to build a collaborative network across the relevant industries by creating a platform providing materials with the potential for reuse to an audience with the same ambition.
A change in the practice of how we manage waste in all industries is long overdue. A transition from demolition to deconstruction has already begun. Our motivation is to be instrumental in connecting the different skill sets needed to progress towards sustainability in design, architecture and construction.
Our first project involves a historic stone yard in Catalunya, where 2000 m2 of marble, granite and travertine offcuts were stacked during 40 years of business.
March 2022, only 2 weeks away from demolition, a short term lease was negotiated by Leleni Studio to prove their reuse potential and save these materials by reintroduction to design and architecture.
Our first projects focused on reintroducing those forgotten materials into new interiors, furniture and architectural applications. Since then, our work has grown into an active collaboration with several stonemasons, allowing us to continuously rescue and reuse offcuts that would otherwise be discarded during production.
Alongside this, we are also able to source and supply large quantities of reclaimed dead stock and offcuts — over 200m² when required — making it possible to create bespoke and sustainable solutions at different scales. To date, we have helped divert more than 700 tonnes of stone from landfill.
Over the past years we have completed our own projects and designs, collaborated with architects and studios internationally, and supplied reclaimed materials for projects in France, the United States, the UK and Spain.
